TransferXL alternative compared

TransferXL, like Filemail, often appears in exactly the search results we write for. If you landed here because you are comparing the two, the exact figures are below, with their sources, including the ones that do not flatter us.

We read every limit from the TransferXL plans page on 27 September 2026. We do not quote the price; more on that below.

What TransferXL offers, plan by plan

The free plan needs an account and takes 5 GB per transfer, with at most 10 transfers a day and at most 10 GB a day or 300 GB a month. Files stay available for one week, and you can add up to 5 recipients by email.

Pro raises the transfer to 100 GB and the daily cap to 200 GB (6 TB a month), makes transfers per day and email recipients unlimited, and keeps files for six weeks. Enterprise goes to 200 GB per transfer, 400 GB a day (12 TB a month) and three months of retention. Every plan lists end-to-end encryption.

What TransferXL does better than us

  1. Files stay online longer for free: a week with them, 1–3 days with us on the free plan.
  2. End-to-end encryption on the free plan. TransferXL lists it on every plan. With us, hosted files are encrypted on your device before upload, but the mode where the key never reaches us, zero-knowledge, is a Premium feature. Our peer-to-peer transfers are end-to-end encrypted on every plan.
  3. Set time windows beyond the Plus limit: Pro offers six weeks and Enterprise three months, while Plus stops at 30 days; Premium can keep the link with no expiry.

If you want exactly a six-week window that then closes, TransferXL Pro offers it. At Transferify, Plus stops at 30 days, and Premium can keep the link active with no expiry.

Where Transferify wins

No daily cap stops you. The free TransferXL plan gives you 10 transfers and 10 GB a day; ours does not count transfers at all. Our limits are different ones, and we state them clearly: the active storage of the free account and 50 downloads per calendar month.

Over 5 GB, without a subscription. The peer-to-peer mode is free up to 5 GB on the free plan, and above that a one-off payment per transfer unlocks any size, with no subscription. The file never passes through our server: it travels straight between the two browsers, and we keep only the metadata. The condition is that the tab stays open until the end and the recipient is online.

Control on the hosted link. A password before download, a download limit, an expiry you choose within your plan and a confirmation when someone has downloaded. With the zero-knowledge mode, available on the Premium plan, the encryption key never reaches us: we cannot read the file, but we cannot recover it for you either if you lose the link.

About the TransferXL price

We do not quote a TransferXL price here, nor do we copy a figure from a third-party site. Read the current amount on the TransferXL plans page before you subscribe. Our plans are listed monthly and yearly; the pricing page reads amounts and features from the same catalogue used at checkout.

How to choose between them

TransferXL fits if you send files of up to 5 GB for free, want a week on the free plan, want end-to-end encryption without paying, or need exactly the six-week window on Pro.

Pick Transferify if you send often and do not want a daily cap, if you need files over 5 GB without a subscription, if you want a password, an expiry and a confirmation on the link, or if you need a link with no expiry on Premium. For the full picture, see how to send large files and the comparison of the two transfer modes.
