SwissTransfer alternative: 50 GB free
SwissTransfer is the awkward case for a comparison page. On the point that matters most to many people, how many gigabytes you can send for free, it beats us clearly, not narrowly. We say so in the first paragraph rather than tucking it away at the end.
We read the figures below from the SwissTransfer and Infomaniak pages on 27 September 2026, and the links are at the end of the page. Where the provider publishes no figure, we say exactly that.
What SwissTransfer does better than us
50 GB per transfer, free, with no registration. Their homepage says it directly: "Send up to 50 GB", "Free and no registration required". Our free plan is built for short, repeated deliveries, not for one huge transfer. There is no angle from which that beats 50 GB in a single file.
Files stay much longer, for free. Their site promises "up to 30 days", and the Infomaniak help center explains how: automatic deletion after 15 days; on the 12th day the sender is offered, by email, an extension of up to 30 days, and that offer stays available for 3 days. With us, the free plan keeps files for 1–3 days.
No paid plan to buy. The pages we read list no paid tier: it is a free product run by Infomaniak. If your budget for sending files is zero and size is all that matters, the comparison ends here, in their favour.
Comparison table, figure against figure
| What you are comparing | SwissTransfer | Transferify |
|---|---|---|
| Free size per transfer | 50 GB | Hosted, per transfer, with no cap on the number of transfers; peer-to-peer free up to 5 GB, then a one-off payment per transfer |
| Account for the sender | No registration; Infomaniak's guide says the sender confirms an email address with a code, once per device | Email confirmation with a code, no password to choose |
| How long files stay, for free | 15 days, extendable to 30 | 1–3 days, your choice |
| Daily or IP limits | Not documented by the provider on 27 September 2026 | The number of transfers is not capped; the active storage of free accounts counts, plus 50 downloads per calendar month |
| Paid plan | None listed | Basic, Plus and Premium; current prices on the pricing page |
| How prices are shown | No paid offer | Monthly and yearly |
What Transferify offers on the hosted link
If you choose by gigabytes, you already have your answer. The options below matter when the link you send has consequences: a contract, a paid photo shoot, a client's file.
A password on the link. A hosted transfer can ask for a password before download, which turns the link from a key anyone can use into one you hand to whoever you choose.
An expiry you choose. You pick how long the link lives, within your plan: 1–3 days on the free plan, 1–7 days on Basic, 1–30 days on Plus, and on Premium 1–30 days or no expiry. You do not wait for the provider's automatic deletion, and you do not need an extension offer.
A download limit and confirmation. You can cap how many times a transfer can be downloaded, and you get a confirmation when it has been downloaded. On the free plan you have 50 downloads in total per calendar month. We say so openly, because it is the limit someone sending one link to dozens of people will hit.
Zero-knowledge, on the Premium plan. Hosted files are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before upload. By default we keep the key, wrapped by a cloud-managed encryption key, so a lost link can be recovered. In zero-knowledge mode the key never reaches us: we cannot read the file, but we cannot recover it for you either if you lose the link. A real trade-off, explained as one.
Over 50 GB, without a subscription. The peer-to-peer transfer is free up to 5 GB on the free plan, then a one-off payment per transfer unlocks any size, with no limit on a paid plan; the bytes travel straight between the browsers. The condition: you keep the tab open until the end, and the recipient has to be online. For a 200 GB video project going to a colleague who is waiting for it, that is faster than any upload.
What we could not check at SwissTransfer
This deserves its own section. SwissTransfer documents no daily or IP limits on any of the pages we read on 27 September 2026. The claim that such limits exist has not been confirmed by the provider, so we do not repeat it. What is documented: there are no usage limitations when you receive a SwissTransfer file, and an archive larger than 10 GB has to be downloaded file by file rather than as one package.
We also do not compare their link control features, because we could not read them at the source in the same check. We would rather leave a row empty than make one up.
How to choose between them
Pick SwissTransfer if you want to send one very large transfer for free and 15 to 30 days of availability is enough for you.
Pick Transferify if the link should have a password, an expiry you choose, a download limit and a confirmation, if you want the zero-knowledge mode on the Premium plan, or if you send more than 50 GB without a subscription. The full process is on the page about how to send large files, and the difference between the two transfer modes is on the features page.
